Guidance News for September
Secondary 5 Class Visits by Guidance took place the first week of September. Individual meetings with the Secondary 5 students will begin the week of September 17th and will continue throughout term 1. We will review the secondary 4 "relevé de notes" and begin the to explore options for next year!
Grade 12 Option...Students in the rest of Canada graduate in Grade 12. There are several private schools in Quebec that offer a Grade 12 year..Bishop's College School in Lennoxville is having an open house at the end of September about their Grade 12 program and where it can lead.
CEGEP & Vocational Centre Open Houses will be coming up in October and November at all of the Montreal-area colleges and Career Centres . Please consult the CEGEP or Vocational page of this site for more information.
Secondary 1 Class visits took place in mid September. We introduced our incoming students to the services and activities offered at Macdonald, and discussed how they are experiencing the transition from elementary school to high school. The students completed an online survey that was posted on the English Googleclassroom page & we will schedule follow-up meetings with a sample of the Grade 7 students throughout the fall term. Any student who would like to meet with one of the Guidance staff will need to have a consent form completed by a parent/guardian.
The PSAT will be written at Riverdale High School this fall. This optional test is intended for students who are considering applying to college or university in the USA after they graduate. This is a practice test for the SAT which is required by all American universities. The test is not required for any Canadian school. If you are interested in writing the PSAT please complete the registration form & return with the testing fee to Mrs. Fraser.
Mac After-School Peer-Tutoring Program information is now available on the website..if you would like to be a tutor or you need a tutor all the information can be found on the tutoring website!The tutoring program will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 pm in the cafeteria.
